Job Description The Military Health Communications Manager will lead the strategic communications planning for a Department of Defense (DoD) client. Responsibilities include: * Oversee a team of multidisciplinary consultants to develop communication plans and strategic messaging in alignment with leadership priorities and captures the organization's mission
* Represent communications project team and report out on all communications activities, to government leadership and stakeholders, including the Public Affairs Office
* Lead a team of communication and dissemination subject matter experts (SMEs), ensuring products meet client needs, are within scope, and submitted according to project timelines
* Track communication project details and timelines, and package final products/materials prior to delivery to the client
* Supervise graphic design and video development specific to tactics outlined in communications plan
* Provide communications consultation and guidance to support the client and program leads, overseeing the development of leadership briefing decks and talking points specific to program communications plan Key Responsibilities * Oversee the development and execution of multifaceted communications campaign in consultation with government SMEs, web development teams, customer support staff, and other stakeholders
* Report progress of communications-related project plans, scope, timelines, to government client and senior leaders
* Lead communications-related stakeholder meetings attended by multi-disciplinary teams, contract staff and government leaders; ability to understand how communications initiatives relate to all aspects of the project, is critical
* Direct communications planning, graphic design, development of materials, and virtual engagement that inform and educate stakeholders about the client's program
* Supervise the development of facts sheets, quick reference guides, and other decision support tools. Must be a strategic thinker and understands how to relate content to the target audience
* Communicate and collaborate with the Public Affairs Office to coordinate program messaging, branding, social media campaign execution, and 508-complaince
* Design, format, write, and edit client and leadership briefs and presentations within the Military Health System
* Must be a self-directed, strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to develop processes, manage day-to-day workload, monitor milestones and deadlines, and provide timely high quality consultative support Required Qualifications * Bachelor's or Master's degree in a communications field (e.g., marketing, public relations, communications) or a health field (e.g., public health, nursing, or related interdisciplinary degree). Master's degree preferred. Must have a minimum of 8 years of related experience
* Experience with leading teams and managing projects in government agency (i.e., HHS, SAMHSA, VA, DoD) or related environment required; DoD preferred
* Polished presentation and writing skills, with the ability to communicate succinctly and effectively
* Must be located in the Washington, DC area and available to travel locally, regionally, and nationally up to 25% Candidates that do not meet the required qualifications will not be considered. Additional Minimum Qualifications * Knowledge of military culture and structure to best support MHS initiatives
* Strong technical writing skills to clearly, logically, and succinctly communicate project-related information within the MHS, DoD, and other federal agencies at the commensurate comprehension and reading level for the audience
* Ability to work collaboratively and independently, and have strong oral and written communication abilities, with strong conceptual and systems-thinking abilities and problem-solving skills
* Solid working knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office business suite, to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required to prepare reports, briefings, and products; experience with Adobe Professional and with posting and sharing documents in SharePoint
* Excellent client-facing consultation skills to include briefing and/or advisement to civilian and uniformed government personnel
* Must be able to establish and maintain relationships, demonstrate initiative, exude a professional presence, focus on results and demonstrate enthusiasm Preferred Qualifications * The ideal candidate will have experience working in the Military Health System (preferably Defense Health Agency, VA, AHRQ, CDC, HHS, SAMSHA or NIH) or a complex federal agency
* Strong preference for individual experienced with collaborating with a team or vendors to create high-quality and engaging presentations in PowerPoint; graphic design experience using Adobe suite, Piktochart, Canva or similar programs to develop infographics for social media campaigns preferred
* Understanding what is required to communicate across various audiences to develop effective presentations and other communications products
* Knowledge and/or experience interpreting and communicating data informed findings/results
* At least 3 years in a management role with direct reports
